Understanding The Star Chart
In my class there are three important character traits also known as the “3 Big R’s.”
1. Respectful 2. Responsible 3.Resourceful
Each morning the students and I will discuss ways to use the “3 Big R’s” during the school day. I have also implemented a behavior chart that requires the students to use the three goals for small and big tasks at school. The behavior chart is named the Star Chart. Each student’s name is placed on a star. The students are also placed on one of four teams. The chart has color coded levels as seen below.
The Star Chart makes students more respectful, responsible, and resourceful! Each year I use this chart and watch my students grow into a big family. Sometimes family argues and so do students. However, I am always amazed at the mature ways they learn to resolve their issues. The Star Chart also teaches my students to be helpful, caring, and sensitive to their diverse needs. I call my class Scott’s Stars. Each time a student use the “3 Big R’s” they shine like a shooting star and that is why I love the Star Chart.
In order to make the star chart work I ask that parents and students review the behavior log and discuss their success or ways to improve. Please remember to sign and return every day.
